Helmut Newton
Berlin, Germany, September 1, 2013
I have been wanting to see the Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin for a long time, but every time I had time to do it, it was on a Monday, the only day the exhibition is closed.
I can highly recommend visiting. There is a large bookstore with lots of photography books (less after I visited), a large exhibition of his and his wife's works, as well as a complete replica of his office in the ground floor, as well as his clothes, his cameras and even his car on display.
Helmut Newton's Louis Vuitton case with initials on display along with his cameras, his clothes, his awards, his office and his car!

"Dear Thorsten,
Thank you for all you taught me on the course. I greatly appreciated how you conveyed so much distilled practical knowledge and experience in an astutely constructed and fun few days. Thank you too to Joy - a terrific model and lovely person."

Berlin workshop
Berlin, Germany, September 1-5, 2013
Berlin was first stop in September. It is a very intersting city for photographing and for experiencing a new dawn for a city. Someone said Berlin today reminded him of New York in the 80s (with all the artists and everything happening), and that is perhaps the best description of what you find - besides the photography. The next Workshop in Berlin will be in May 2014.

Roger Waters
Berlin, Germany, September 5, 2013
We were invited to the Roger Waters "The Wall" concert in Berlin, and whilst we had hoped to talk to him, the closest we got was eye contact backstage and sitting just in front of the stage just before the wall went down.
How sexy are those, with acess to everything but the shower room.
Peter Coeln
Vienna, Austria, September 5, 2013
We did a feature video with Peter Coeln, the founder of Leica Shop Vienna, WesLicth Gallery, WestLicht Camera Auchtions ... and an avid collector of photos, art, books, polaroids ... and stuff. Joy is currently editing that video for later release in October 2013.
Whilst at it, we also did this little tribute to Andy Warhol Eating a Burger in New York. Peter wanted to sit in his old photographers chair for the feature video, and that didn't work. So we found another purpose for the chair.
Enjoy!

Vienna Workshop
Vienna, Austria, September 6-9, 2013
I did a workshop in the WestLicht Gallery and Leica Shop Vienna where the World Press Photo exhibition had just opened. Hence Jan Grarup was doing a lecure in the first evening.
We also be presenting a little video feature about the Leica Shop Vienna, Westlicht Gallery and Wetlicht Auchtion that is all the work of Peter Coeln.

Anita Steinwidder
Vienna, Austria, September 12, 2013
We stumbled into local Vienna designer Anita Steinwidder and used some of her clothing for the Overgaard Workshop model shoot. And also had to do a portrait of her:

At the end of the day we say these ladies outside a home, quite far from the street and impossible to photograph without them noticing it.
We decided we had to have them, and of course we had to ask them - and they were amused to be our subjects. Leica M 240 with Leica 50mm Noctilux-M ASPH f/0.95

Peter Kruder
Vienna, Austria, September 9, 2013
I have been a huge fan of Kruder & Dorfmeister for 15 years and managed to see Dorfmeister live in Oslo ten years ago by addicent. In Vienna I unexpectedly was introduced to the other half of Kruder & Dorfmeister, Peter Kruder and had dinner with him and his wife. And of course had to shoot a portrait of him minutes before he had to rush to see the football match between Austria and Scotland.

Artists Night, Vienna
Vienna, Austria, September 9, 2013
As it has become a tradition, we host an Artists Night whenever we can, in the cities we visit. This one in Celebrity Centre Vienna. Artists Night is simply an evening for artists from all fields and usually we gather 30-60 people and have a lot of fun. It's always free to participate. See Facebook for more info.

Back in Denmark
Aarhus, Denmark, September 12-15, 2013
We drove back to Denmark from Vienna in one stretch and anjoyed four days of hanging out and working ... that felt like four weeks. Lots of stuf got done before we headed for London.
Hanging out at Café Englen is one of the things we simply have to do when in Aarhus, Denmark. Leica M 240 with Leica 50mm Summicron-M f/2.0 II.
London
London, Great Britten, September 16-21, 2013
As always London is a great place for workshops. The hotels are quite expensive, but once that has been confronted, the city is beautiful light, lots of iconic signs and design, cool people and always intersting and unpredictable weather This workshop had been moved back from October to make space for some assignments I have to do in October. The next London Workshop will be in January 2014.

Henri Cartier Bresson
Paris, France, September 21, 2013
Inspired by the visit to the Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin, when in Paris, why not go see the Henri Cartier Bresson Foundation as well?
We decided to take the Metro and take one stop longer than supposed to, just to take a walk through some unknown streets. And I am glad we did, because when we came up from the Metro, there was a street market going on.
Parisian street market
The Henri Cartier Bresson exhibition was a disappointment because they didn't show any Henri Cartier Bresson, but instead another photorapher. Also the museum store lacked lots of books, the hard-to-get DVDs. All in all, only a few HCB postcards and less than 10 framed photos on the top floor of HCB.
The place was so packed there was a line outside. I wonder if people came to see HCB or the other photographer. My guess is we all wanted to see HCB and learn about his photography and life, as the Helmuth Newton exhibition in Berlin does so wel. And which the HCB exhibition does not at all.

From grandfather to grandson - A Leica M3
Paris, France, September 29, 2013
A sweet story unfolded as we met this 17 year photographer with his Leica M3 and a rare collectors kit in a bag. All was bought from new in the 50s by his grandfather and now handed over to the grandson. They are both equally thrilled to see the camera being used.
Now, that is a bag with a Leica kit ...
