20th Anniversary of my website overgaard.dk
1996 - 2016
Few had a website in 1996, but I did.
I originally started my website in 1996: I was so busy doing Internet and dot.com that I thought I should have a place where friends and family could check in and see how the family and I were doing. I would keep a record of each month with what happened and it was a great way to keep a record and stay in contact with friends and family.
My website 12 years ago when it was mainly about my family and with a section about Leica.
A few years later I started posting pictures and articles made with my Leica cameras as a record of what I had been doing. As the number of visitors and mails I received grew, I started making it more into a communication rather than just my own personal record.
That's how the overgaard.dk became the website you know today. From a few hundred visitors a year in 1996 to more than a million.
Dr. Andreas Kaufmann who had bought the Leica Camera AG factory told me the first time we met, "Whenever I need to know something about Leica, I visit your website!"
One of the key features of the overgaard.dk website is that nothing changes once it’s posted. That is how people who buy a Leica Digilux 2 from 2006 on eBay today still can find a long and detailed account of my adventure with that camera, how to set it up and how to get it to work.
Likewise, anyone new to Leica M9 can find what the famous Apple blogger John Gruber characterized as "the worlds (possibly) longest camera user report" on that camera.
All of the website is free to read and print, made in the spirit of sharing and as a relaxing and fun side project for me to relax with in-between writing my books, teaching workshops, judging photo competitions and photographing around the world.

"Thank you for making so much information free on your website. I'm a retired U.S. soldier. My job was photojournalist and I somehow lost the desire to make meaningful photographs.I'm now getting that feeling of motivation again, thanks in part to your work."

"I must say that your class completely changed the way I shoot pictures, and I am eternally grateful.
For instance, I took my daughter fly fishing in Chile this past March and the photos I took of her are exquisite. They will remain lasting memories for each of us, and works of art in their own right. I could not have done this without your help.

My favorite airline, the Emirates
Bangkok to Copenhagen, January 2, 2016
People often ask how many points I gather from all my travel. The truth is that I fly with so many different airlines I don't really get up there. I know people who fly all the time with American Air or Quantas, but I fly not only one place. Also, I am fundamentally against loyalty programs that award the one who use the money and not the one who pays. But that's another story.
But my favorite airline is Emirates which I use when I go to Asia and would love to use all the time if I could.
On my trip back to Denmark from two months in asia I got a goodwill upgrade on the flight and got to experience the brand new Airbus A380 that the staff was just as exited and curoius about as we were.
Hanging out in the Airbus A380 lounge: We got to meet Julia Karo from Poland who now lives in Dubai and have been with the Emirates for eight years and also sings gospel. The A380 double decker plane was all new to her and the other staff who were just as exited as us. Leica M 240 with Leica 50mm Noctilux-M ASPH f/0.95.

A gift from Hong Kong
Aarhus, Denmark, January 5, 2016.
A year ago Lawrence Wong did my workshop in Hong Kong and made a great photograph of my and my daughter Robin Isabella walking in the late afternoon.
This year when I returned to Hong Kong in November he came by with this special print he had gotten made for me. This is how it looks before it goes to framing.
It made it safely all the way to Denmark, through some 8 other countries in the luggage. Thank you Lawrence for taking the photograph, and for sharing it!

Just to express my sincere thanks to you for providing us such a fantastic Sydney Master Class. The best part of the workshop was how much I could learn from making the best use of my Leica M. I almost wasted my camera if I did not join the workshop. Please send my regards to Joy as well."

The "Snowzilla" New York Blizzard 2016
New York, January 22-24, 2016
With great anticipation I heard it would snow in New York. In the evening of January 22 it started slowly and by Saturday the 23th about one feet of snow had fallen. I was out in the night and the next days. Not for that long, but long enough to get some of the atmosphere. With the usual drama and a taste for making even small events into historic "breaking news" the snowstorm was named "Snowzilla" and the #Blizzard2016.
I was also in New York during the Blizzard 2011 which I wrote about here.

Los Angeles
Hollywood, January 25 - 30, 2016
We check into our French chateau in Hollywood for some weeks of writing holiday, photographing, etc.. And the Grammys, naturally (which is on February 15, 2016).
Only in Hollywood I think, you will see something like this. Leica M 240 with Leica 50mm APO-Summicron-M ASPH f/2.0.
It was raining in LA on January 30 and 31. I was out and got really wet taking photos, and I met very few lost angels who was just as enthusastic about it as I was. Leica M 240 with Leica 50mm APO-Summicron-M ASPH f/2.0.
