A Moment in Denmark: The Danish concept "hygge" is to enjoy indoor life with candle lights, dressing in layers of clothes, enjoying a warm cup of tea and imagining this is the best place in the world. The word "hygge" is best translated into "cozy and comfortable" but doesn't really cover it. It's a state of mind; a little timeless bubble of perfect life and the ide that this is what everything is about. Leica M 240 with Leica 50mm APO-Summicron-M ASPH f/2.0
Writing and gettting stuff done
Aarhus, Denmark, April 1, 2015
I finally get to spend some time in the chilly pre-spring of Denmark, writing and getting stuff done. We have gotten an assistant, Linda from Paris, as well so we can plow through some extra things. Nice.
We get to juice, go to the gym and hang out in cafés as well. Robins tutor is here as well so they do school work every day.
I don't know why I found this table so facinating. Maybe because it was morning and the brids were singing outside.

"Thanks Thorsten!
I'm just starting to come down after that amazing weekend and I wanted to say many thanks to you for a special time - more than a weekend about photography it was a kind of therapy! It will take me a while to process everything and I'm enjoying taking the time to reflect. If you have a plan for a week in Barcelona next year please keep me in mind." |

"Thank you for your site. I thoroughly enjoy the content and in particular have found it very helpful with my own Leica M9. I have yet to do one of your workshops however when the opportunity arises I will take it. I travel all over the world with my job which from an amateur photographer and art hobbyist perspective provides many opportunities. I always have my M9 and sketchbook with me."

My hometown Aarhus is quite deserted in the weekends and the Easter. The cafées are packed, and so is the museums and the parks. But the streets. No.
A traffic accident
Denmark, April 2, 2015
On our way home from the cafe today a car crossed the road for red light and our car hit it. We were four in our car and one person in the other one. Nobody was hurt, only the cars which may likely not get on the road again. My car took off one of the wheels of the other car.
It was quite dramatic but we had seat belts on and didn't text while driving. It was a good learning experience in that regard. I made a note on being prepared for anything.
The remains of the car.

New Article on the 50 APO, and interview with the designer
Denmark, April 4, 2015
It took a years of testing befoer I wrote my article on "the worlds best 50mm lens". As a bonus there is plenty of test photos from
all over the world, and an interview with the lens designer Peter Karbe from Leica Camera AG.
|
|
|
|
"I am so grateful for your exceptional website, and its wonderful articles, and I really hope to attend one of your workshops one day soon.
I just really wanted to congratulate you on your article on the 50 APO. It articulated so many things I felt, but did not have the analytical concepts to express, about that lens. Your article did a splendid job of explaining why it seems both ordinary, but yet in its neutral, transparent nature, extraordinary.
It is a wonderful portrait of Mr. Karbe you have drawn, and a beautiful job of conveying his philosophy, passion and commitment in bringing this amazing lens into being.
And so it was just perfect that your article closed with such well-spoken, true, and loving observations about the uniqueness of Leica, the amazing project of the S …
Superb and enlightening!"

"Thank you. I am getting ready to read the new edition of "Magic of Light" right now. The information and illustrations via your wonder photos cause me to hit the streets every time I open it and cast a glance at it. I'm still lusting (I know shouldn’t) after a Leica M and a 50 mm summilux. Leica should pay you wheel barrows full of money for the great advertisement your photos and comments are for their products".

Sadface Volvo: There's a beautiful Volvo parked in a street most of the time. It reminds me that last time Joy and I rented a car in Germany, we talked about how Volvo is percieved as a luxory car in Scandinavia and a car for old people in the US.
Nemesis, if you can believe in it, when we arrived at Hertz they had let go of "our" BMW and gave us a Volvo instead. We drove it for three weeks last summer.
After we had a traffic accident the other day (where only the car was hurt), I might actually - maybe- get a Volvo as replacemtn. For safety and old times sake ... (Leica M 240 with Leica 50mm APO-Summicron-M ASPH f/2.0)
