British television producer Emma Brumpton and I did this - now classic - video on a Saturday in Faroe Islands whilst waiting and preparing for Al Gore visiting to speak about the climate.
This was our second visit to the Faroe Islands (see my story on "Photographing Bill Clinton") and we should have known better. We stayed in the same hotel as Al Gore, on the top of the hill with a view over Torshavn, the capital of Faroe Islands. We rented a car and decided to drive and do some photos and video, despite the show storm.
There are basically only two roads to the airport in Faroe Islands: The new one through the tunnels, and then the old one over the top of the mountains. We took the old one all the way to the airport and back, amused by the showstorm that at times didn't allow us to see the road or anything.
When we came back to the hotel, the press officer heard what we had done and she was horrified! Nobody in their right mind would drive in that weather, especially not on the old road!
Which explained why we didn't see any other traffic. Aha! But we did get the video done, as well as a lot of good photos. Some of them you can see here. Enjoy!
